St. Petersburg, with its monuments and historic palaces, is the cultural capital of Russia. There are countless buildings that dot this beautiful city.
Marble Palace
Located between the Field of Mars and the Palace Quay, owes its name to the massive use of polychrome marbles. The building, designed by Antonio Rinaldi, was commissioned by Catherine II in favor of Count Orlov, her lover.
Winter Palace
Built in 1762, it was the official residence of the Czars until 1917. The palace symbolizes the magnificence of what was the Russian Empire. The main facade is 150 meters long and 30 meters high. In 1905 it was the scene of the “Bloody Sunday”.
Engineers Castle
It is located in downtown St. Petersburg and it is one of the most original monuments of the eighteenth century Russian architecture. The main facade is decorated by the sculptor Staggi. It was here that in 1801 the Tsar was killed in his bedroom.
Stroganoff Palace
Completed in 1754 by Italian Rakes and located on the corner of the Nevsky Prospect, it is one of the most elegant buildings in the city. For over a century it was the seat of the Stroganoff family, and many famous artists collaborated on its decorations.
